Apple iPad Pro 2018 Reportedly Features 8-Core A12X Chip and Face ID
Building on the rumors we have about Apple’s next iPad Pro, 9to5Mac is reporting some new interesting details about the device. The iPad Pro 2018 will be powered by the first 8-core chip from Apple. This A12X SoC is codenamed “Vortex”.
It’s pretty much given that we’re staring at the same chip found in the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max with two more cores. The possibility of an 8-core chip from Apple makes for an exciting watch.
The A12 Bionic is currently the fastest smartphone SoC available, beating Snapdragon 845 and Kirin 970 by a good margin. It’s even ahead of the leaked Geekbench scores for the upconing Snapdragon 855 and Kirin 980.
iPad Pro will feature an edge-to-edge display which will be a first for iPad. The absence of a home button means that Apple is looking to integrate Face ID in the iPad Pro, as previous reports have also suggested. Additionally, the iPad Pro 2018 will be able to output in 4K HDR to external displays via a USB-C port.
Apple is also reportedly working on a new Apple Pencil that pairs with the iPad Pro. The back of the device will feature a magnetic connector for attaching accessories like the Smart Keyboard.
Apple is expected to hold an event in the coming months to showcase the new iPad lineup as well as the new Macs.
