Rumors so far point to three iPhone models will grace the market this year. The report from Wall Street Journals adds what some have been expecting.

The highest-end iPhone, which will be the succeed iPhone XS Max, will feature triple-camera setup on the rear. This will be a first for iPhone. The two other iPhone models will feature dual-camera on the back. Apparently the iPhone XR successor will also get the dual-camera treatment.

The report also reveals that Apple has no plans to ditch using LCD for iPhone XR, especially after disappointing sales. Apple may decide to drop LCD-based iPhone from its lineup in 2020, though strategy for the next year is still under preliminary stages. According to a well-known leaker, Apple will do away with the notch next year.

Apple has been under the microscope by analysts ever since it announced a revised projection for its current quarter revenue. CEO Tim Cook cited stagnating sales in China as the primary reason for weak iPhone sales overall.

“While we anticipated some challenges in key emerging markets, we did not foresee the magnitude of the economic deceleration, particularly in Greater China.”

Another strong factor for slowing iPhone sales is the rising cost of iPhones. Just two years ago, the idea of a $1000 smartphone seemed ridiculous. But Apple went ahead and launched an iPhone priced at $1000. Now with the current iPhone lineup costing above that price-point, consumers are less likely to make an upgrade year, especially with incremental upgrades.

That, and also the fact that Apple is facing stiff competition in China as well as in the US.

The pressure is on Apple to put iPhone sales back on an upward trend. The Cupertino giant needs to show consumers that they’re getting more value out of their purchase, now more than ever.
