Remember when we reported that HWInfo’s upcoming update includes support for GV104? We can now add AIDA64 to the news.

Release notes for the upcoming AIDA64 releases clearly mentions “NVIDIA GV102, GV102GL, GV104, GV104M” (via Guru3D). You’ll notice another entry carries the “M” suffix. This implies the mobility chips are also on the way. Although Nvidia stopped using the M suffix with the introduction of GTX-10 series. We should expect notebook manufacturers to follow with new gaming notebooks soon after launch.

The “V” in GV104 stands for Volta. The nomenclature refers to Nvidia’s upcoming GPU that will power its flagship graphics card – the GTX 1180. And interestingly, the findings do mention that naming scheme.

The name attached to ID GV104 is “GTX 1180”. Whether its the true naming scheme of the next GeForce series is something we’ll see during the official expected reveal this month. But for now, the fact that both HWInfo and AIDA64 mention GV104 should hold more credibility than mere rumors.

Nvidia has kept the 11-series in much secrecy. It has led to some confusing rumors over the past months. . Volta, Ampere, or Turing – whatever architecture Nvidia ends up using – it will be interesting to watch rumors die at the upcoming GeForce Gaming Celebration event.
